Laughing in the Face of Death – series

‘Laughing in the Face of Death’ is a collection of five masterpieces created by Tashi; drawn from his training in Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and iconography.

Impermanence is a fundamental truth. In the face this truth; Tibetan Buddhists generally have a more accepting and positive attitude toward the inevitability of death. The skull in Tibetan iconography represents impermanence and often depicted laughing.

This set of paintings migrate in an ordered succession, from the black skull of death through to re-birth symbolised by the blossoming blue skull. This ‘between stage’ is known as the bardo in Tibetan.
