Tashi has taught Tibetan calligraphy worldwide for over 15 years, conducting workshops, courses, and retreats that combine the meditative approach to creativity with the precision of the many traditional Tibetan script styles. He has also authored two books, listed below.
Wisdom Online Tibetan Calligraphy Courses
In collaboration with The Wisdom Academy, Tashi offers a comprehensive two-part online course in Tibetan Uchen calligraphy. Originally filmed during one of Tashi’s legendary workshops in New York City, the course has been organised into self-paced lessons accessible from anywhere in the world.
Part 1: Foundations of Uchen Script
In Part 1, Tashi guides you through setting up and constructing each of the Tibetan letters in the popular Uchen script, including how to make and use the foundational grid that serves as the basis for each letter. Detailed instructions cover the order and technique of each stroke used in constructing all 30 letters, maintaining the sacred proportions of the Tibetan Uchen script.
The course includes nine video lessons, suggested materials lists, reference images for each letter, student forums, practice instructions and quizzes.
Part 2: Combination Letters & Writing Words
In Part 2, you’ll learn the combination letters and start writing words, including the mani mantra. Tashi teaches how letters are superscribed or joined together, building on the foundation established in Part 1.

Tibetan Calligraphy – The Meditative practice of Uchen Script.
༄༅། །བོད་ཡིག་དབུ་ཅན་གྱི་རྣམ་གཞག་དང་ལག་ལེན་རྣམ་པར་བཤད་པ།

Foreword by Gen Pema Bhum. Edited by A. M. McKenzie.
Wisdom Publications presents the first-ever comprehensive Tibetan writing manual in English. Author Tashi Mannox offers the paleographical history of the classical Uchen script, with scriptural examples of the great Tibetan calligraphy masters and scholars. He explains traditional writing techniques and theory, illustrating letters, punctuation, and the structure of manuscripts—as well as the divine and coherent letter proportions of mantra and seed syllables within the principles of mandala.
The Uchen script is a living tradition, created to preserve and convey the teachings of Buddhadharma. It is the primary script style for Tibetan Buddhist manuscripts and mantras and is regarded as sacred; each of the thirty letters of the Tibetan alphabet are considered to be bodhisattvas.
Both a thorough and informative guidebook and an inspiring paean to centuries of artistic and meditative tradition, with over 150 beautiful illustrations, this is a revelatory volume to study and treasure.
Tibetan Calligraphy – The Meditative practice of Uchen Script will soon be available to preorder.
