Totreng-Tsal Mantra

Known as the long thotreng-tsal mantra of Padmasambhava – Guru Rinpoche.

Composed in a honorific style of Uchen script, usually reserved for illuminated heading pages of larger manuscript.

This calligraphy uses natural earth pigments to highlight different colour variations of letters, such as to announce the start of particular mantras in red, as well as differentiate smaller commentary text in a warm yellow-ochre colour.

The art-piece is finished with three repeated hลซแนƒ seals in cinnabar red, these seal the supreme commitment of sa ma ya, representing ‘inner, outer and secret’.

Japanese mineral pigment on Nepalese rag paper. Dimensions 78 x 57 cm. Created 2018
