The Precious Moon

Just as wisdom should be inseparable from compassion, so the moon is inseparable from the sun.

The symbolic meaning of the precious sun & moon is essential to the Buddhist values, as foolish compassion can be just as unhelpful as wisdom without compassion.

For the above reason, this rendition of an auspicious full moon was created in response to the creation of sun – which makes a power pair of art-pieces.

The background is infilled with natural ultramarine pigment to a super-matt finish, contrasting with “moon gold” leafs’ bright lustre. The moon is illuminated with its own aura of multicoloured hues of mica inks, applied accurately with a large radius compass.
