Plump Abundance

This rendition of the iconic eternal knot, was especially created for a group exhibition called Endless Knot, which brings together 30 artists from around the world in a reflection on interconnectedness, resilience, and hope.

Scribed near the top of the art piece is the  Tibetan word ‘tendrel’ རྟེན་འབྲེལ A concept which carries a profusion of possible meanings and associations. It is difficult to understand without first appreciating causality – that whatever we do has an effect: Karma. This is especially important as a Buddhist, considering merit and wisdom are essential requirements on the path to enlightenment.

‘tendrel’ is in fact made up of two separate meanings to the word: ‘ten’ means foundation/support and ‘drel’ means dependence, conditionality. This suggests that all phenomena are linked with each other and dependent on each other.

Therefore, to actively help bond a connection with a friend or relationship with one’s spiritual teacher, gifts are offered or help given, which are considered good karmic ‘tendrel’ of auspiciousness.
