Spirited Dragon Calligraphy

A brush and ink creation to mark the new year of the ‘Wood Dragon’ 2024.

This is the word dragon in a Tibetan calligraphy style called Petsug. Dragon འབྲུག in Tibetan literally means thunder.

The vermillion red subscribed ‘ratag’ is purposely blown upon to explode the ink in all directions. Suggesting the allure of a dragons flaming tail or the fire a dragon spits.

According to the Tibetan scriptural discipline, it is the ‘shabgyu’ vowel sign below this ‘ratag’ which is optionally coloured red. However artistically placing this dynamic burst at the centre of the word, is suggestive as described above.

The artwork is signed and stamped with a new seal of the artist, especially created for this year of the Wood Dragon. This is of a flaming pearl, which represents essential life force or a wishful-filling gem.
