Dragon study

This dragon painting was initially created as a study piece for a larger illustration, for the narrative of a major documentary film made on the epic escape of the Dalai Lama in 1959 called ‘Never Forget Tibet’ as seen here.

This study later became the basis for a major work called Dragon Thunder Awakens

This ‘wisdom’ Dragon is depicted bursting through ink-wash clouds of delusion, which spits a wish fulfilling jewel, seen as one of the artists personal seals in the top left corner.

A one-word Tibetan calligraphy to the bottom right, simply translates as ‘dragon’ – pronounced druk in Tibetan, a word also meaning thunder, such poetic description placing the dragon as elementally powerful.
