The Ascending Path
A labyrinth like script called horyig* chosen for its maze like pathways in the assent of achievements in life.
The main body of text in black spell the word ‘ascend’, which is further elevated with a golden crown reaching upwards, this also plays the role of a heading character belonging to this particular writing system.
The creation of this piece is more contemporary in design, which demands a constructed approach, rather than written with the flow of a pen. The effect is commanding in bold black, red and gold lettering, lending an overall handsome piece.
horyig* is a script stye commissioned by the Mongolian Emperor Kublai Khan during the 13th century, who needed to communicate across his vast empire; a commanding seal script style that mimicked Chinese seal script. Based on the Tibetan writing system, horyig established itself in Tibet, though largely only used from seal designs and some temple decoration.
At the honoured invitation of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, This calligraphy artwork and four other pieces were especially created and submitted for the Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial Tenth Edition on the theme of ‘Elevation’.
