Water and Fire Elements Study
Initially created as a template for the below artwork on canvas called “Flaming Dragons Pearl’ – this arose the opportunity to indicate colour combinations as a guide to embroidery, especially on the water element designs along the bottom and right edges.
This study piece illustrates the process and technical means to create an artwork. As rather than draw directly on canvas, the image is first drafted on brown wrapping-paper, which besides being easier to erase unwanted pencil lines, brown paper is robust enough to take fine perforations of the final drawing, through which charcoal dust is ‘pounced’ onto canvas. These dusted dots provide guide for the paint application, which can be easily cleaned off afterwards.
The end result of even a study piece can be just as captivating than a final finished artwork – with the honesty of pencil construction and the way colour pops against what is otherwise rather ordinary brown wrapping paper.
On of several pieces specially created as part of the guest-artist collaboration with Maharishi clothing for their spring summer collection 2024.
