Light of The Awakened

At the invitation of the 2023 World Calligraphy Biennale of Jeollabuk-do 세계서예전북비엔날레 in South Korea – This piece ‘Light of The Awakened’  was especially created and gifted to the exhibition.

With given title ‘Virtue of Relentless Creation’ on the theme of  ‘vividness’ – deep matt lazurite pigment was chosen as the background, maximising the vivid contrast between bright lustrous of 23.5ct gold leafed Tibetan syllable ‘mum’, the essence syllable of Shakyamuni Buddha, Which blazes with bright lustre above clouds in the vast expanse of space.

Two lines of cursive Tibetan calligraphy translate as “brilliant rays of light stream from the body as if from the sun”

Of the 3,200 artists participating, all the calligraphy pieces where superbly mounted in the scroll tradition of Korea, China and Japan.
