    Water Tiger

In celebration of the Chinese/Tibetan Year of the Water Tiger, which according to Eastern astrology lands on Tashi’s birth year. This painting is especially significant in expressing his 60 year experience under the influencing qualities of the Water-tiger. Typical characteristics of those born under this sign can be somewhat self-assured if not a bit pompous, as well as possessing a greater sense of moral responsibility, setting a good example of being fair and just and overall calm.

This painting explores the less likely juxtaposed relationship of feline and water. Dynamic, both strong and sensitive, the tiger is depicted fearlessly, if not comfortably, wading the creative fluidity of water, pushing past the venerable lotus leaves and high standing lotus flowers, blooms in magenta and the rare blue utpala lotus of a peaceful pure realm. This places this tiger in its natural habitat of the Far East.

The piece is painted using techniques of traditional Tibetan thangka painting, yet less conventional in representation – the tiger and his pose with clumps of lotus plants, is more realistic, contemporary, in character.

This artwork was especially created and completed on the numerically auspicious date of the 22/02/2022
